A taste of France at Brasserie Blanc

A contemporary twist on classics with the decor and food, with the menu featuring modern takes on soufflés, citrus sauces and tortes, visiting for dinner was an utter delight from start to finish.   Brasserie Blanc is designed to give diners the feel of a warm, relaxed French family life and welcomes all ages in their Brasserie.  It gives you the feel of being transported to France.

 

The layout of the restaurant is good; they offer well sized tables with plenty of room around the tables and booths, so it offers the opportunity of a nice intimate dinner without having to listen to your neighbour’s day.  Tables are well set with the use of good cutlery and a nice large napkin.

 

We were very well attended to by our server, Georgia.  She was extremely attentive, friendly and had good knowledge of the specials on offer.  We were given enough time to deliberate and choose our choice of food and wine.  

 

Although we did find the wines costly, premium quality does come at a price and there are a great selection of wines on the menu. We started our evening with the bespoke French sparkling, Blanc de Blancs and as the evening progressed, we ordered the Cotes du Rhone Grenache/Syrah that really complemented our meal.

 

The food arrived in good time allowing for it to be freshly prepared.  

 

We started with Trempettes- Baguette with Olive Tapenade, Virgin Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar and a Saffron Garlic Mayonnaise which was to die for. We had to ask for extra bread in order to make sure we finished all this amazing Mayonnaise.

 

To start my husband had the Potted Cromer Crab with Avocado, Prawn Butter, Cayenne Pepper and Sourdough Toast, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  I started with Escargots in a Garlic Herb Butter with Baguette.  The Escargots brought in from Burgundy, were ever so tender and had a beautiful and fresh taste which I really enjoyed.  My daughter ordered the Steak Tartare.  She was very sceptical at first but ended up being converted and really enjoyed the starter.

 

For mains my husband chose Boeuf Bourguignon.  An unctuous meal served with red wine sauce, Lardons, Baby Onions and Mushrooms served on a bed of the most velvety smooth mash.  The meal was faultless with the Beef melting in your mouth.  I chose the Pork Belly Special with Dauphinoise Potatoes, Grilled Cabbage and Gooseberry Compote.  Well, I was in heaven.  The meal was amazing.  The only negative for me was that I missed not having any Pork Crackling with the meal.  My daughter ordered the Hake Fillet on a bed of Kale and new Potatoes served in a Saffron Sauce with Mussels and Clams.  What a crowd pleaser, this was an amazing and tasty dish.

 

We were so full after these three amazing courses, but yet our waitress tempted us with dessert and we just could not pass on the offer of a Pistachio Soufflé served with Rich Chocolate Ice-Cream and a Chocolate Torte with Rich Chocolate Ice-Cream.  Well Yum!!!!  The Pistachio Soufflé was like none I have ever tasted.  I will definitely be back for another of those.  Although the Chocolate Torte was a bit rich, both desserts were delectable.

 

We were quite surprised to see that a 10% service charge is automatically added to the bill as we do like to tip our servers in cash and know that the tip goes directly to them, but with respect to the added discretionary service charge of 10%, we were advised that it is distributed amongst the whole team from the bartender making your drinks, your waiter taking your order to the chefs cooking your meal. Of course, this is completely up to the guest and upon querying this, management was more than happy to remove it from the bill and allow us to tip our server direct. 

 

We have been advised that as of the 30th of March 2017 their menu has changed and we are really excited to go back and try some of their new dishes.
